About Us

One out of every seven Jewish women in Israel is at risk of becoming inextricably stuck in an unwanted marriage. Thousands of women, mesoravot get, are living through this nightmare, neither married nor divorced, stuck for years or even decades in a state of limbo, prevented from leaving their unwanted marriages and unable to build new lives for themselves. Mavoi Satum, a not-for-profit organization established in 1995, takes a unique approach to helping mesoravot get by helping individual women while advocating for broader reform.

Michal Waller, Chair

Michal, a piano teacher by profession originally from Australia, worked as a community worker for a Jerusalem-based environmental organization for many years before she joined the board of Mavoi Satum.

Judith Garson Djemal

Judith, past chair and co-founder originally from Gibraltar, is a documentary filmmaker by profession with experience working for the BBC as well as creating documentary films for non-profits in Israel.

Symma Freedman

Symma, past chair, a British-born lawyer living in Jerusalem, has been working in volunteer fundraising for over a decade.

Gloria Menzin

Gloria, past chair and co-founder, is a Jerusalem-based businesswoman who built and operated Jerusalem Granola for 30 years before selling her company to Telma.

Abby Lipner

Abby, a Jerusalem-based community activist originally from the United States, is married and mother of three completing a degree as a Holistic Health Practitioner (H.H.P.).

Audrey Chavel

Audrey has a background in business and is currently living in Chicago with her family.

Kylie Eisman-Lifschitz

Kylie, a lawyer by profession originally from Australia, has expertise in organizational development and donor relations and is currently working for the Joint Distribution Committee.

Sandra Lozowick

Sandra is a Jerusalem-based clinical psychologist originally from New York specializing in pyscho-oncology, and works at Tishkofet-Magen seeing clients in individual, couple and group therapy

Yaffa Epstein

Yaffa, a renowned Jewish educator at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem, the Looktein Center and Ta Shma, holds a Law Degree from Bar Ilan, is pursuing a Masters Degree in Talmud from Bar Ilan University.
